Yacht clubs

Publish your races to be found on JibTrak

Set your club up on this website, enter your class ratings, your races and who is entered, and crews find your club in the app by searching for its name.

How it works

Three steps, once a season.

  1. Set your club up

Give it a name, choose a username and a password, and give an email address. We email the address a link to confirm it, so a forgotten password can be reset by email. Your password is scrambled in your browser, so we never see it. You can add your club’s address and logo too.

  2. Enter your season

Add your class ratings (the bands that put a boat in IRC One, IRC Two and so on), then each race with its date, its first gun and every class’s own start time. Choose your entry list as an Excel workbook or a CSV file, or paste it straight from your spreadsheet. A race stays a draft, seen only by you, until you switch it on.

  3. Crews find you

Crews find your club in the app by searching for its name, pick one of your races, and JibTrak copies all of it onto their phone: the details, every class’s start time, your class ratings and the boats entered. The same page can be read on this website.

In the app. In the Race calendar, Join a race from a yacht club: a crew searches for your club by name, picks a race, and JibTrak copies its start times, start sequence, class ratings and entry list into the boat’s own lists. It only reads what you have published; nothing about the boat or the crew is sent to you or to us.

What a club keeps here

The same lists the app uses.

The fields, the words and the four course types are the app’s own, so a race set up here means the same thing on a boat.

Class ratings

Named rating lists with the rating each class runs from and to. Leave the top blank for a class with no limit, like IRC Zero. Each race uses one list.

Races

Name, course, date, first gun, distance and a link to your sailing instructions. Regattas get a last day and a number of races a day.

Start sequences

Each class’s own start time, so a crew knows its gun and not only the first one of the day.

Entry lists

Boat, sail number, class, rating and design. A boat with a rating but no class is put in the right class for you.

What we keep, and who can see it

Everything a club publishes is public, so keep to what you would pin on a notice board.

  • Public by design. Anyone can find a club by its name and read the club’s name, area, address, logo, website link, time zone, rating lists, races and entry lists. Boat names and sail numbers can be linked to an owner, so only publish an entry list your club is happy to publish.
  • Almost nothing about people. We ask for no names of people and no phone numbers. We do keep the email address you give, and the username you choose: the email address only to send you two kinds of message, a link to confirm it and a link to choose a new password if you forget it, and nothing else, ever. It is not shown on your club’s page. The messages are delivered by an email service, Resend.
  • The password stays with you. It is scrambled in your browser before anything is sent, and we keep only a fingerprint of the result, which cannot be turned back into your password. If you forget it, we email a link to your confirmed address to choose a new one. Your browser keeps you signed in only for as long as you ask: until you close the tab, or up to 30 days if you tick “keep me signed in”.
  • Found by name. Anyone can search for a club by its name; there is no code to type. JibTrak does not check who sets a club up, and every club page says so.

Questions clubs ask

Do we need an account?

Yes, but it is a plain one: a username and a password you choose, and an email address for the club (one the officers share is best). There is no name or phone number to give. Whoever has the password can change the club, so share it with the officers who run your races and nobody else.

What if we forget the password?

Choose Forgot your username or password? on the sign-in screen and type your username, or the club’s email address. We email a link that lets you choose a new password, and the message tells you the username too. It is only sent to an address that has been confirmed, which is what the first message we send asks you to do, so confirm it as soon as you set the club up. If the address was never confirmed, or nobody can read that mailbox any more, we can’t reset the password for you, because nothing else proves who the club is: make a new club. If an officer leaves, change the password from inside the club and every other sign-in ends at once.

Can we add our logo and address?

Yes. Under Account you can add your club’s address (one line) and choose a logo: a PNG, JPEG or WebP picture, which your browser shrinks to fit and saves again before sending it. Both show on your club’s page, and the logo shows beside your club’s name when you are signed in. Use the club’s own address, and please don’t upload a picture of a person.

Does it cost anything?

There is no charge.

Which races can a club publish?

Any of the app’s four kinds: an offshore passage race, an offshore round the marks, a regatta of several short races, or a day race.

Can boats use it in the app?

Yes. In the app, open the Race calendar and choose Join a race from a yacht club. A crew searches for your club by name, picks a race, and JibTrak copies it onto their phone: the details, every class’s start, your class ratings and the boats entered. It only reads what you have published, and once the race is on the phone it needs no connection.

How do I take a club down?

Sign in, open Account and use Delete the club at the bottom. It removes the club and everything in it. Anything that shouldn’t be on a club page can also be reported to us from the support page.

Ready to publish your races?

It takes a few minutes, and the password is yours.
